Like the Winston Churchill quote: "Some people dream of success. While others wake up and work hard at it."
If you're like us, you may have always been a perpetual 'list maker', an incessant 'goal writer', a thorough 'researcher of all options'...After all, planning is therapeutic, motivating as you hone in on your perceived future - and can even be downright fun! (Insert 'Eye of the Tiger' theme music and a movie montage of your upcoming successes playing out in your mind in Rocky fashion.) Or wait! we can insert it:
...The problem is, in all those days, minutes, and hours of meticulous planning - you could have actually written a great deal of that story.
Also, keep in mind - the quickest way to learn what works and what doesn't is to DO it. Once you jump in, you're likely to find that the challenges you spent hours planning for easily surmounted, but others you didn't realize would arise - are a far bigger deal! Another great and applicable quote by the late Churchill:
“It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see.” Instead of trying to plan too far ahead, make a simple enough plan to be implemented right away. Then, look forward to evaluating those steps once they are finished, and re-working them to be even better the next time! Also, don’t wait until the timing is ‘perfect’. There is no such thing as perfect - you know this! Just to throw out one more of my personal favorites Churchill favorites: “Perfection is the enemy of progress”. When it comes to weight loss, so many people say, “Yeah, I really have to get started doing something about _____”…but they continue putting it off as if there has to be a big official starting block before they can set good habits into motion. In reality, we've all achieved amazing goals often enough in the past that we have plenty of knowledge on the subject. Now think about how you achieved those goals? Was it perfect overnight? Was it thanks to slaving over the perfect plan? Or was it small efforts (and failures!) adding up to success? Likely!
